If you are driving, start on the major highway from Mexico City (Carretera Federal 15D). Head west toward Toluca, and then take the exit for the 15 to continue toward Morelia. As you approach Morelia, follow signs for Uruapan and then continue on the 37. After about 2.5 hours of driving from Mexico City, you will reach the town of Angangueo. From Angangueo, take the road toward the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve. Follow the signs for 'Mariposa Monarca' as you navigate the winding roads up the hills. Expect to pay a small entrance fee to the reserve, usually around 60 pesos per person.

Public Transportation
To reach Mariposa Monarca via public transport, start at the Terminal de Autobuses de Pasajeros in Mexico City. Take a bus to Morelia, which should take about 3-4 hours. From Morelia, transfer to a bus heading to Angangueo. Buses run regularly, and the journey takes about 1.5 hours. Once in Angangueo, you can either take a taxi or hike to the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve. Be prepared to pay an entrance fee of about 60 pesos upon arrival at the reserve.
