If you're driving, start from San Cristóbal de las Casas. Take Federal Highway 190 north towards Ocosingo. After about 1 hour and 30 minutes, you'll reach Ocosingo. From Ocosingo, continue on Federal Highway 199 towards the town of Bonampak. Follow the signs for Bonampak, which is approximately 2 hours away. Once you arrive, look for signs directing you to the archaeological site. The entrance to Bonampak is about 4 km from the main road. Ensure your vehicle is equipped for rural roads, as some stretches may be unpaved.
Bus
For public transportation, head to the main bus terminal in San Cristóbal de las Casas. Look for ADO or OCC buses that travel to Ocosingo. The journey takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Once in Ocosingo, you will need to take a local taxi or a colectivo (shared van) to Bonampak. The taxi will cost around 200-300 MXN, and the colectivo is usually cheaper but might take longer as it picks up other passengers along the way. Ensure you communicate your destination clearly to the driver.
