Just got back from Caravan Tours peubla, choula, oaxaca mitla el tule, mexico city santa marta. This was a wonderful trip we visited so many places. Our tour guide was amazing, the bus riding was timied perfect, sit rotations, and enough time to stop use the bathroom get snacks strecth your legs. Wonderful drive threw the mountains to oaxaca. We saw so many churches and sites during our visit, the food was great amazing, Mezcal factory, Chocolate factory, rug and ceramics, huge markets, talk about worn out.

An AMAZING Tour!! Worth every penny and the money from the tour provides an interest free loan for indigenous women. .We visited 5 indigenous women who started their own businesses. We went to 2 different villages outside the center of city capital of Oaxaca, Oaxaca de Juarez (the commercial and tourist hub) Since most of the women operate their business from home we went I to several traditional family compounds. It was really fascinating, the communities we visited spoke Spanish as the second language. We met with a weaver, a seamstress, a restaurateur, a chocolate maker, and a mold maker. Each story was inspirational. What an incredible day!!!

A great place for a homestay with a Spanish speaking grandma in San Cristobal de las Casas

I recently returned from a week at a Spanish Language school in this town near the Guatemalan border. I stayed in the private house of a woman recommended by the school, Instituto Jovel, which I also recommend. Flory Burguete owns a four bedroom home in the middle of town, about a three block walk from the school. You do not need to be attending the school to stay with her. You can book directly through her. You can pay her to prepare meals if you wish. I did and was very happy with her cooking. She intentionally prepares meals well known in the area. She does not speak English but is very quick with her translation app. She is a delightful, helpful woman and added so much to my time in San Cristóbal. The home itself is authentically local, has two separate toilets and a separate shower. The yard is a lovely garden. The altitude in the city is 7,000 feet so the temperature is usually cool.
