Bus
From San Cristóbal de las Casas, head to the main bus terminal (Terminal de Autobuses). Look for the buses heading to Palenque, which leave frequently. Ask the ticket seller for the bus that stops at Agua Azul. The journey takes about 2-3 hours. Once you arrive at Agua Azul, there will be signs directing you to the waterfalls.
Collective Taxi (Colectivo)
From San Cristóbal de las Casas, go to the colectivo stand located near the main plaza or at the bus station. Look for colectivos that are heading to Agua Azul. These shared taxis are a bit faster than the bus and leave once they are full. The trip takes approximately 1.5-2 hours, and you will be dropped off at the entrance to the waterfalls.
Tour Operator
Consider booking a day tour from San Cristóbal de las Casas or Palenque that includes Agua Azul. Many tour operators provide transport and a guide, which can enhance your experience. The tours typically include stops at other attractions along the way, and they will take you directly to the entrance of the waterfalls.
Combination of Bus and Local Transport
From Tuxtla Gutierrez, take a bus to Palenque (about 5 hours). Once in Palenque, you can take a local taxi or colectivo to Agua Azul, which is about 1 hour away. Make sure to confirm the return schedule with your driver, as taxis may not always be readily available.
