Monumento Al Pipila: A Glimpse into Guanajuato's History

Getting There

• Walking

  From the main square, Jardín de la Unión, head northeast on Calle 5 de Febrero. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Calle de los Bañuelos. Turn left onto Calle de los Bañuelos, and follow this street until it merges with Calle de San Miguel. Continue walking up the hill as the street becomes steeper. After about 15-20 minutes of walking, you will arrive at the base of the hill where the Monumento Al Pipila is located. The monument itself is visible from a distance, so keep an eye out for the large statue as you approach.

• Funicular

  Start at the Jardín de la Unión and walk to the nearby funicular station, located at the top of Calle de la Paz. The funicular is a short, steep ride that costs approximately 30-50 pesos (check current fare). Once you arrive at the upper station, you will be very close to the Monumento Al Pipila. Just follow the signs and walk down a short path to reach the monument. The funicular runs frequently, making it a convenient option.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  If you prefer a quicker option, you can use a local taxi or a rideshare service like Uber. Simply request a ride to 'Cerro de San Miguel.' The cost will vary depending on your starting point, but it typically ranges from 50 to 100 pesos. The driver will drop you off at the entrance to the area leading up to the monument. From there, it's just a short walk to the base of the monument.
