Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from a location in the Gulf Coast region, head towards the main highway, the Federal Highway 307 (Carretera Federal 307). This highway runs north to south along the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Depending on your starting point, you may need to take local roads to connect to this highway. Once on Highway 307, follow the signs for Tulum. The drive from Cancun to Tulum takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Keep an eye out for signs directing you to the Zona Hotelera Tulum, which is where the archaeological site is located. Parking is available at the site, and expect to pay around 30-50 MXN for parking.

• Bus

  For those preferring public transportation, take a bus from major cities like Cancun or Playa del Carmen. ADO is the primary bus company operating in this region. From Cancun, board an ADO bus at the Cancun Bus Station. Buses run frequently, and the ticket price is around 200-250 MXN one way. The journey takes approximately 2 hours. Once you arrive at the Tulum Bus Station, you can take a taxi or a local colectivo (shared van) to reach the archaeological site, which is about 5 km away. The taxi fare to the site is typically around 50-100 MXN.

• Colectivo

  If you are already in Playa del Carmen, you can take a colectivo to Tulum. Collectivos are shared vans that leave from the corner of 2nd Street and 20th Avenue. They are a cost-effective option, with fares around 50-60 MXN per person. The trip takes about 45 minutes. Once you arrive in Tulum, you can either walk or take a taxi to the archaeological site.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous traveler, renting a bicycle in Tulum is a great way to explore the area. There are several rental shops in town. Riding from the town center to the archaeological site is about 3 km and can take around 15-20 minutes. This option allows you to enjoy the scenic views along the way. Ensure you wear sunscreen and stay hydrated, especially under the sun.
