Crossing Cultures at Veterans-Los Tomates International Bridge

Getting There

• Walking

  Start at the Plaza Principal (Main Square) in Matamoros. From the square, head south on Calle 1 until you reach the intersection with Calle 2. Turn left onto Calle 2 and continue walking for about 10 minutes. You will pass various shops and restaurants along the way. Once you reach the intersection with Avenida Manuel Cavazos Lerma, turn right. Continue walking straight for about 15 minutes, crossing over Avenida 4 and Avenida 5. You will eventually reach a large intersection with Avenida 6. Here, you will see signs directing you to the Veterans-Los Tomates International Bridge. Follow the signs and continue straight until you see the entrance to the bridge.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  From the Plaza Principal, walk to the nearby bus stop on Avenida 1, where you can catch a bus heading towards the 'Puente' (Bridge). Make sure to ask the driver if they stop at the Veterans-Los Tomates International Bridge, as some buses may only go to the main bridge. The bus ride should take around 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. Once you arrive at the bus stop for the bridge, disembark and follow the pedestrian signs leading to the entrance of the Veterans-Los Tomates International Bridge.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi or rideshare service from anywhere in Matamoros. Just tell the driver you want to go to the Veterans-Los Tomates International Bridge. Depending on traffic, the ride should take about 10-15 minutes. The driver will drop you off at the entrance to the bridge, where you can proceed to cross into Brownsville, Texas.
