Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the city of Oaxaca. Head southwest on the Carretera Federal 175 towards the town of San Pedro Mixtepec. Continue on this road for about 50 kilometers until you reach the intersection with the Carretera Costera 200. Turn left onto Carretera Costera 200 and follow the signs to Chacahua. After approximately 30 kilometers, you will see signs for Parque Nacional Lagunas de Chacahua. Follow the road until you reach the park entrance. Be prepared for a small parking fee, typically around 50 pesos.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Parque Nacional Lagunas de Chacahua using public transportation, catch a bus from Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido. Buses depart frequently from the Oaxaca Central de Autobuses. The bus ride takes about 6-7 hours and costs approximately 200-300 pesos. Once you arrive at Puerto Escondido, take a local taxi or colectivo (shared taxi) to the town of Chacahua, which is about a 30-minute ride. From Chacahua, you will need to take a boat taxi to enter the park, which costs around 100 pesos per person.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, consider hiring a taxi from Puerto Escondido. This option is more expensive, generally costing between 800 to 1000 pesos for the trip to Parque Nacional Lagunas de Chacahua. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting the journey. The taxi will take you directly to the park entrance.
