For example, if you're in Puerto Vallarta, take Highway 200 heading north until you reach the junction with Highway 15. Proceed on Highway 15 until you reach the city of Tepic. From Tepic, switch to Highway 54 heading northeast. Continue on Highway 54 until reaching the town of Zacatecas. The Mexican Plateau is located near Zacatecas, specifically at coordinates 24°N, 102°W. There are tolls on some parts of these highways, so be prepared for a fee of about MXN 200-400 depending on your route.
Bus
For those opting for public transportation, start by taking a bus from your location on the Pacific Coast to Tepic. Companies like Estrella Blanca and Primera Plus run regular services. Once in Tepic, transfer to a bus heading to Zacatecas. The journey from Tepic to Zacatecas takes approximately 5-6 hours. Bus tickets range from MXN 500-800. Upon arrival in Zacatecas, you can rent a car or take a local taxi to reach the Mexican Plateau, which is about 30 minutes away from the city.
Train
While train services are limited for this route, you can take a train from the Pacific Coast to Guadalajara and then switch to a bus to Zacatecas. The train from, for example, Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara takes about 5 hours. From Guadalajara, take a bus to Zacatecas (approximately 4 hours). Train tickets cost around MXN 300-600, while the bus from Guadalajara to Zacatecas will cost an additional MXN 200-400.
