Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, set your GPS to 23960 Ruggles Rd, South Haven Charter Twp, MI 49090. From I-96, take exit 34 for US-31 S towards Holland. Continue on US-31 S for about 20 miles, then take exit 38 for Blue Star Highway/MI-86. Turn left onto MI-86 and continue for about 10 miles. Turn right onto Ruggles Rd, and the park entrance will be on your left. Parking fees may apply, so be sure to check the latest rates on the Michigan DNR website.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, take a Greyhound bus to South Haven. From the South Haven bus station, you can use a local taxi service or rideshare app like Uber or Lyft to reach Van Buren State Park. The distance from the bus station to the park is approximately 8 miles, and taxi fares may vary but expect around $15-$20.

• Biking

  For those interested in biking, there are bike paths along Blue Star Highway. If you are within a 10-15 mile radius, consider biking to the park. Be sure to wear a helmet and follow traffic rules. There are bike racks available at the park entrance.

• Walking

  If you are already in the vicinity and prefer walking, the park is accessible via local trails from South Haven. It is approximately a 2-hour walk from the downtown area of South Haven. Follow the scenic paths along the coast for a beautiful experience. Ensure you have proper footwear and check the weather before heading out.
