To reach Hartley Nature Center from downtown Duluth, walk to the Duluth Transit Authority (DTA) bus stop near the intersection of Superior St and 2nd Ave E. Look for bus route 16, which heads towards Woodland Ave. Board the bus and stay on for about 15 minutes. Get off at the Woodland Ave & 30th Ave E stop. From there, walk east on 30th Ave E for a short distance, then turn left onto Woodland Ave. Continue walking straight for about 0.3 miles, and you will arrive at Hartley Nature Center located at 3001 Woodland Ave.

If you are staying nearby, you can walk to Hartley Nature Center. Start from the corner of Woodland Ave and 30th Ave E. Walk north on Woodland Ave for about 0.6 miles. The entrance to Hartley Nature Center will be on your right, clearly marked with signage. The walk takes approximately 15 minutes and offers scenic views of the surrounding area.

For those with bicycles, you can ride to Hartley Nature Center by taking the bike trails. Start from the Lakewalk along the waterfront, then head towards the western edge of the city. Follow the bike path signs towards Hartley Park. After approximately 2 miles, you will find a trail leading directly to the Hartley Nature Center entrance from the bike path. This ride will take you around 20 minutes and offers a beautiful outdoor experience.
