Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Gunflint Trail. Head northwest on Gunflint Trail (County Road 12) towards Grand Marais. Continue on Gunflint Trail for approximately 16 miles. As you approach Grand Marais, you will reach the intersection with Minnesota Highway 61. Turn left onto Highway 61 and follow it into Grand Marais. Once in town, follow the signs towards the harbor area. The Grand Marais Lighthouse is located at the end of the harbor, near the waterfront. Look for parking areas along the harbor where you can safely park your vehicle.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, first check if there are local bus services available that connect Gunflint Trail to Grand Marais. Once you arrive in Grand Marais, you may need to walk or take a taxi to reach the lighthouse. From the bus stop in Grand Marais, walk towards the waterfront, which is about a 15-minute walk. Follow the signs for the harbor area, and you will find the Grand Marais Lighthouse at the end of the pier. Be sure to check the schedule for the bus service ahead of time as it may not run frequently.
Bicycle
For those who enjoy cycling, you can bike along Gunflint Trail from the surrounding areas. Make sure to wear a helmet and take proper safety precautions. The ride is scenic but be mindful of traffic. Once you reach Grand Marais, follow the signs to the harbor area, which is easily accessible by bike. There are bike racks available near the lighthouse where you can secure your bicycle.
Walking
If you are already in Grand Marais, you can reach the Grand Marais Lighthouse by walking from the town center. Head towards the harbor area, which is approximately a 10-minute walk. Walk along the waterfront path, and you will soon see the lighthouse at the end of the pier. This is a pleasant walk with beautiful views of the lake.
