Car
If you're driving from any location in Lutsen Mountains, start by heading north on MN-61 N. Continue for about 15 miles until you reach the town of Grand Marais. Once in Grand Marais, take a left on Pincushion Drive (1 Pincushion Dr). Follow Pincushion Drive, and you will find the Pincushion Mountain Trail System at the end of the road. There is no parking fee, and ample parking is available.
Public Transportation
If you are relying on public transportation, check the local bus schedules for routes that service Grand Marais. The closest stop will be in the town center. From there, you will need to use a rideshare service or taxi to cover the remaining distance to Pincushion Drive, which is approximately 1.5 miles away. Be aware that rideshare fares may vary, so it’s advisable to check the app for estimated costs.
Biking
For the adventurous, biking from Lutsen to Pincushion Mountain Trail System is an option. Take the North Shore State Trail, which runs parallel to MN-61 and leads toward Grand Marais. Once you reach Grand Marais, follow Pincushion Drive to your destination. Ensure you wear a helmet and follow local biking regulations. There are no costs associated with this method, other than the potential rental fee if you don't have your own bike.
