Sugarbush Onion River Trailhead, Lutsen Mountains Travel Guide

Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Lutsen Mountains, head north on MN-61 N. Continue for approximately 5 miles until you reach Tofte. Look for the sign for the Superior Hiking Trail on your right. Turn onto the access road leading to the trailhead. The Sugarbush Onion River Trailhead is located at the intersection of Superior Hiking Trail and Onion River Road. There are no parking fees at the trailhead.

• Public Transportation

  There is limited public transportation in the area, but you can use the North Shore Transit bus service. Check the schedule for the bus that travels along MN-61. You will need to disembark at the Tofte stop. From there, it is about a 1-mile walk to the Sugarbush Onion River Trailhead. Follow the road towards the Superior Hiking Trail, and look for the trailhead signs. Be prepared for a short walk, and ensure you have appropriate footwear.

• Biking

  For a more adventurous route, consider biking from Lutsen Mountains. Take the paved bike path along MN-61 N towards Tofte. The trailhead is about 5 miles from Lutsen. Once you reach Tofte, follow the directions given for cars to locate the Sugarbush Onion River Trailhead. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow local biking regulations.
