Getting There

• Car

  If you're already within Superior National Forest and have access to a car, head to Silver Bay, MN 55614. From the nearest major highway, Highway 61, take the exit towards Silver Bay. Follow MN-1 N for approximately 5 miles until you reach the intersection with MN-61. Turn left onto MN-61 and continue for about 2 miles. You will see signage for Rocky Taconite. Keep an eye out for parking areas as you get closer to the site.

• Public Transportation

  For those relying on public transportation, check the local bus services that operate in the area. There are limited options, so you may need to plan your trip ahead of time. The nearest bus stop to Rocky Taconite would be in Silver Bay. From there, you can either walk (approximately 1.5 miles) or arrange for a taxi service to take you directly to the site. Be sure to confirm the bus schedules, as they may not run frequently.

• Walking

  If you find yourself nearby in Silver Bay, walking to Rocky Taconite is a viable option. Start at the Silver Bay city center and head north on MN-61. After about 1.5 miles, turn onto the trail that leads down toward Lake Superior. Follow the trail signs toward Rocky Taconite. Ensure you have suitable walking shoes, as the terrain can be uneven in some spots.

• Bike

  For the adventurous cyclist, bring your bike along. From Silver Bay, you can ride along the scenic routes leading to Rocky Taconite. The bike ride will take you about 30 minutes from the center of Silver Bay, following MN-61 N. This option allows you to enjoy the beautiful views along the way.
