    The Cypress Swamp is directly accessible from the Natchez Trace Parkway. From Canton, Mississippi, head north on the Natchez Trace Parkway for approximately 25 miles. The Cypress Swamp will be on your left, with a marked parking area. There are no fees for parking or accessing the swamp.

The Cypress Swamp, found at milepost 122.0 on the Natchez Trace Parkway, presents a captivating journey into a realm of trees, water, and reflections. This easily accessible site features a 0.4-mile loop trail via boardwalk, inviting visitors of all ages and fitness levels to immerse themselves in the subtle beauty and peaceful setting of a southern swampland. As you stroll along the boardwalk, you'll be surrounded by towering bald cypress and water tupelo trees, many growing directly from the swamp's still waters, creating hauntingly beautiful reflections. These trees are well-adapted to the wet environment; bald cypress can live up to 600 years and are known for their distinctive 'knees'. The swamp is home to diverse wildlife, including various bird species, snakes, turtles, and the occasional alligator. The Cypress Swamp is an abandoned river channel, gradually filling with silt and vegetation. Black willow, sycamore, red maple, and other trees will eventually replace the bald cypress and tupelo over hundreds of years. The Natchez Trace Parkway itself is a 444-mile recreational road managed by the National Park Service, stretching from Natchez, Mississippi, to Nashville, Tennessee, and is known for its historic sites and markers.
