Discover more about Vicksburg Riverfront Murals

Stretching along the Mississippi River floodwalls on Levee Street, the Vicksburg Riverfront Murals present a captivating outdoor art gallery that brings the city's rich history to life. Commissioned in 2002, artist Robert Dafford and his team created the first series of 32 panels, each measuring 12'x 20', depicting various periods and events that shaped Vicksburg. The murals showcase pivotal moments such as the Civil War, the arrival of the railroad, and the region's commerce and culture. Each mural has an informative plaque detailing the historical context. In 2012, a 55-foot mural was added to the Grove Street flood wall, across from the Levee Street murals, adding another dimension to the historical narrative. The Grove Street mural depicts runners passing by areas of historical significance in Vicksburg. The murals not only beautify the riverfront but also serve as a catalyst for community development. The area surrounding the murals has been enhanced with a children's park and playground, resurfaced roads, and landscaping. The Vicksburg Riverfront Murals offer an engaging and accessible way to experience the city's history and appreciate its vibrant culture.
