Discover more about McRaven Tour Home

McRaven Tour Home, located in Vicksburg, Mississippi, offers a unique glimpse into the past, earning it the nicknames 'Mississippi's Most Haunted House' and 'Time Capsule of the South'. The house's construction spans three distinct periods, beginning in 1797 when Andrew Glass, a highwayman, built a two-room brick structure. This original section, now known as the 'Pioneer Section,' features a kitchen and a bedroom above, accessible by a removable ladder. In 1836, Sheriff Stephen Howard expanded the house, adding a dining room and bedroom in the Empire style. Tragically, Howard's young wife, Mary Elizabeth, died in childbirth in the house that same year, and her spirit is said to be the most active ghost within its walls. Visitors have reported seeing her apparition and experiencing her playful pranks. John H. Bobb completed the house in 1849, adding Greek Revival elements, including an elegant parlor and a distinctive staircase. During the Civil War's Siege of Vicksburg in 1863, McRaven served as a Confederate field hospital. The house is filled with museum-quality antiques from each era, offering a vivid representation of life throughout the 19th century. Visitors can explore the house and stroll through the three-acre gardens, which once served as a Confederate campsite.
