The Siege of Vicksburg, which lasted from May 18 to July 4, 1863, was a pivotal moment in the American Civil War. Union forces, led by General Ulysses S. Grant, encircled the city of Vicksburg, Mississippi, trapping Confederate troops under the command of General John C. Pemberton.
