Discover more about Bluff City Theater

Bluff City Theater, located at 212 Broadway in Hannibal, Missouri, is a professional theater company dedicated to bringing literary works to life on stage. Founded in 2013 by Joe Anderson and Wesley Yargus, the theater emphasizes productions that bridge the gap between books and the stage, offering a unique cultural experience in the heart of Mark Twain's hometown. The theater is housed in the historic former Farmers and Merchants Bank building, a neo-classical structure built in 1910. The building itself is an iconic landmark, featuring Missouri limestone Corinthian columns. After the bank's closure in 1970, the building remained vacant until its restoration in 2014, transforming it into an intimate 90-seat performance space. The auditorium incorporates salvaged seats from Hannibal High School's 1990s renovation, featuring distinctive art-deco metalwork. The acoustics are excellent, ensuring that most performances require no amplification. Bluff City Theater typically produces five plays each year, encompassing a variety of genres including dramas, comedies, and musicals. The theater also stages environmental productions at unique local venues. Beyond its own productions, Bluff City Theater hosts musical, theatrical, and community events throughout the year. The theater also has an active youth program.
