Discover more about Riverview Park

Riverview Park, a historic prairie-style public park in Hannibal, Missouri, has been a beloved destination since its establishment in 1909. The park's creation is attributed to the generosity of Wilson B. Pettibone, who envisioned it as a space for passive enjoyment of nature. Landscape architect Ossian C. Simonds designed the park in the prairie style, intentionally omitting active recreation facilities like playgrounds and sports fields to emphasize a tranquil experience. Spanning 465 acres of forested land, Riverview Park offers spectacular views of the Mississippi River. The park includes several notable features, such as three scenic overlooks with retaining walls, remnants of the original concrete stairway, a network of roadways, the Clemens Memorial Statue (1913), and a memorial stone and plaque dedicated to Pettibone. Visitors can explore paved and unpaved trails, picnic areas, and a playground. Note that part of the North River Road trail is currently closed due to a landslide. Riverview Park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. Today, the park continues to serve as a recreational and aesthetic asset to the City of Hannibal, offering a place for people to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the Mississippi River Valley.
