From downtown Independence, head to the nearest bus stop for the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) bus service. Take the #20 bus towards the Blue Ridge Crossing. Ride until you reach the Blue Springs Park and Ride. Transfer to the #17 bus towards the Blue Springs area. Get off at the stop closest to Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the bus stop; head northeast on 7 Highway, then take a left onto Burr Oak Woods Road, which leads directly to the conservation area entrance.

If you are staying in central Independence and prefer to walk, you can start at the Independence Square. Walk east on Lexington Avenue until you reach the intersection with 7 Highway. Continue walking south on 7 Highway for approximately 2 miles. When you reach the intersection with Burr Oak Woods Road, turn right. The conservation area entrance will be just a short distance ahead.

For those who prefer cycling, start in central Independence and take the bike-friendly routes along Lexington Avenue heading east. Once you reach 7 Highway, follow the same route as pedestrians, cycling south for about 2 miles until you reach Burr Oak Woods Road.
