Independence Temple: A Beacon of Peace

The Independence Temple, located in Independence, Missouri, is more than just a building; it's a symbol of peace, unity, and the ongoing mission of the Community of Christ. Completed in 1994, the temple's distinctive design, envisioned by architect Gyo Obata, evokes the spiral shell of a nautilus, with a stainless steel spire rising 300 feet into the sky. The temple's story began with a revelation in 1984, building upon over 150 years of prophetic guidance within the Community of Christ. In 1831, Joseph Smith, the founder of the movement, prophesied that a temple would be built in Jackson County, and a portion of land was dedicated for this purpose.
