Established in 1981, the park occupies a narrow strip of land alongside I-55, a location perhaps best recognized by the shuttered Hi-Way Bar visible just south of the Sidney overpass. Despite its size, Aboussie Park provides a valuable space for relaxation and recreation for the surrounding community.The park is named in honor of Martie "Murph" Aboussie (1909-1970), a local politician from the 9th Ward. A sign within the park commemorates Aboussie's service to the community. Additionally, a statuette of St. Francis of Assisi honors Martie J. (Jay) Aboussie, Jr., who passed away in 2006. The park includes benches, bike racks, and trash cans. Visitors can enjoy the mix of coniferous trees and flowers, as well as the aroma of barley from the nearby Anheuser-Busch brewery.
