    Rudi Monastery, also known as Rughi Monastery, is located in the village of Rudi, approximately 215 km north of Chisinau and 42 km from Soroca. Situated in the scenic Rudi-Arionesti landscape, not far from the Dniester River, this monastery is one of the oldest in Moldova.The monastery was established in 1777, with the Holy Trinity Church consecrated under the blessing of Bishop Inochentie of Husi. Brothers Andronachi and Teodor Rudea founded the hermitage with financial support from merchant Donciul from Movilău. The church's architecture showcases a distinct Moldavian character, reminiscent of medieval Moldavian churches from the 16th and 17th centuries. Its design features white stone walls, traditional religious architecture, and an elongated central dome. The church walls are nearly a meter thick, and the bell tower is supported by a system of semicircular overlapping arches, known as the “Moldovan vault”.Throughout its history, Rudi Monastery has experienced several periods of closure and transformation. In 1846, local authorities closed the church, and it was later used as a residence for servants. In 1948, the monastery was closed by the Soviet government and converted into an orphanage and later a hospital for children. The Holy Trinity Church was used as a depot. The monastery was reopened in 1992 and has since undergone renovation.Today, Rudi Monastery is a nunnery that attracts visitors with its picturesque setting and spiritual atmosphere. In addition to the monastery itself, the surrounding area offers natural and historical attractions, including prehistoric remains in a 100-meter-long cave, an exceptional nature reserve, and ancient fortresses.
