The Cahul City Monument is more than just a landmark; it's a symbol of the city's identity and a tribute to its historical journey. Inaugurated on July 2, 2002, to mark five centuries since Cahul's first documentary attestation, the monument reflects the city's past, present, and future. Created by sculptor Ion Pascal, the monument features a Doric-style column topped with three doves on an abacus.The monument's design is rich in symbolism. Pascal explained that the column represents precise forms emerging from formless matter, symbolizing genesis and the growth of material and spiritual development. The three doves signify the three ages and names of the municipality: Șcheia, Frumoasa, and Cahul. The monument serves as a focal point for cultural events and celebrations, fostering a lively atmosphere where visitors can engage with local artisans and vendors showcasing traditional crafts and regional delicacies.Located on Str. Mestecinilor, the monument is easily accessible and provides a picturesque spot for relaxation and reflection.     Walking

    The Cahul City Monument is located on Str. Mestecinilor in Cahul. From Cahul's city center, such as the central market, walk east along Strada Ștefan cel Mare. Turn right onto Strada Alexei Mateevici, then turn left onto Strada Mihai Eminescu. Continue onto Strada Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu, then turn right onto Strada Unirii. Finally, turn left onto Str. Mestecinilor. The monument will be on your left. The walk is approximately 1.5 km and should take about 20 minutes.

    Public Transport

    From the Cahul bus station, take a local bus or 'marshrutka' (minibus) towards the city center. Many routes pass near the city center. Alight near the central market and follow the walking directions. A single fare on a local bus is approximately 3 MDL.

    Taxi

    Taxis are readily available in Cahul. From any point in the city center, a taxi to the monument will be a short ride. A typical short taxi ride within Cahul costs approximately 30 MDL base fee, plus 4 MDL per kilometer. The final fare should be around 40-55 MDL.
