Curchi Monastery: A Moldovan Spiritual Gem

Curchi Monastery, located near the village of Curchi in the Orhei district, stands as a testament to Moldova's rich religious and architectural history. Founded in 1773 by the brothers Iordache and Mihail Curchi, the monastery began as a modest wooden hermitage. In 1958, Soviet authorities closed the monastery, repurposing its buildings as a psychiatric hospital until 1995. During this time, the monastery suffered neglect and damage.
