Dendrariu Park: A Green Oasis in Chișinău

Dendrariu Park, a verdant sanctuary in the heart of Chișinău, offers a refreshing escape from the urban environment. Founded in 1973 on the grounds of the former Botanical Garden, the park has expanded to encompass 77.8 hectares of diverse biological landscapes.The park's history began in the mid-19th century when it was known as the “City Garden”. It was designed as a refuge from the busy city streets, quickly becoming a favorite relaxation spot for locals. In 1968, it was renamed “Dendrarium” and underwent significant renovations, including the addition of a lake, a botanical garden, and various sculptures.Today, the Dendrariu Park is home to over a thousand plant species, representing most of Moldova's flora. The park also features a rich seed collection and over 50 conifer species from different global floral regions. Rare species include the Ginkgo biloba, Metasequoia, and Canadian Tsuga. Visitors can explore sectors showcasing Moldova's forest vegetation. The park provides a tranquil atmosphere, shielding visitors from urban noise, making them forget they are in the city center.The park is not only a place for recreation but also plays a vital role in preserving rare plant species, including nine woody plant species listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova.
