Discover more about Noul Neamt Monastery

Nestled in the village of Chițcani, near Tiraspol, the Noul Neamt Monastery is a significant spiritual and architectural landmark in Moldova. Founded in 1861 by monks seeking to preserve Slavonic traditions, it stands as a successor to the Neamț Monastery in Romania. The monastery was established as a protest against measures taken in Romania that confiscated monastery estates and forbade the use of the Slavonic language in worship. The monastery complex features four churches: the Summer Holy Ascension Cathedral, the Winter Assumption Church, the Saint Nicholas Seminary Church, and the Holy Cross Refectory. The 70-meter bell tower, the tallest in Moldova, offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Inside, visitors can admire intricate frescoes and well-preserved interiors that showcase the artistic achievements of local craftsmanship.Despite facing challenges, including closure during the Soviet era when it was converted into a hospital, the monastery was reopened in 1989 and has since been restored. Today, Noul Neamt Monastery is not only a place of worship but also a cultural center, housing a museum with a collection of old books, icons, and religious artifacts. Visitors can explore the grounds, admire the architecture, and experience the peaceful atmosphere that makes this monastery a true gem in Moldova's cultural landscape.
