Contrary to the name, which translates to 'Hundred Mounds', the area actually contains over 3,500 formations.These mounds, varying in height from 1 to 30 meters, create a unique and undulating terrain. The tallest of these, Movila Țiganului (Gypsy's Mound), reaches approximately 30 meters. The origin of Suta de Movile is a subject of scientific debate. Some believe they are the result of ancient landslides and collapses, while others suggest they are concentrated submarine reefs of the ancient Sarmatian Sea that covered the region millions of years ago.Local legends tell tales of fierce battles fought on these lands, with the mounds serving as burial sites for fallen heroes. From Criuleni, take the road towards the Nistru River, following signs for the Suta de Movile area. The landmark is located at approximately 47.7751° N latitude and 27.2802° E longitude. A GPS or mapping app is recommended due to potentially unmarked roads. There are no tolls on this route. Fuel costs should be considered.
