Located on a promontory near the village of Butuceni, the Geto-Dacian Monument is the oldest fortification in the Orheiul Vechi complex. Archaeological research indicates that people inhabited the peak of Butuceni hill as early as the 8th to 7th centuries BC. In the 5th century BC, the Getae fortified the settlement, repeatedly modifying and reinforcing its defensive systems. The monument includes a citadel equipped with a stone wall. The Geto-Dacian sanctuary, dating back to the 4th-3rd centuries BC, features a circular cult construction believed to have served as an astronomical observatory and calendar. It was composed of a stone altar and 21 pillar holes arranged in three circles. Today, the Geto-Dacian Monument is part of a 4-kilometer trail that begins at the Orheiul Vechi Exhibition Center. The site offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and the Raut River, providing a unique blend of historical significance and natural beauty.
