    Public Transport

    From Chișinău, take a marshrutka (minibus) from the Central Bus Station towards Butuceni or Trebujeni. These depart approximately every 30 minutes. The journey takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Tickets cost around 46 lei. From Butuceni or Trebujeni, follow the signs to Old Orhei Fort, a walk of approximately 15-30 minutes.

    Car

    From Orheiul Vechi, drive southeast on local roads. Use GPS coordinates 47.3099011, 28.9731755 to navigate directly to Old Orhei Fort. The fort is about 15 minutes from the main tourist area of Orheiul Vechi. Parking is available near the entrance.

    Walking

    From the main visitor center in Orheiul Vechi, follow the marked trails towards the fort. The walk is approximately 2 km (about 30 minutes) and offers scenic views. Be prepared for uneven trails.

    Old Orhei Fort, located within the Orhei National Park, is a significant historical and archaeological complex in Moldova, approximately 60 kilometers northeast of Chișinău. The area's natural landscape features limestone rock formations eroded by the Răut River, creating a dramatic setting for the fort and other historical vestiges.The fort's history spans several eras, with the earliest traces dating back to the Geto-Dacian period (6th–1st centuries BC). The Golden Horde, a Mongol-Tatar state, controlled the territory in the 14th century and built a town known as Yangi-Shehr (later Orhei), which included a fort and caravanserai. The area was fortified with defensive walls and towers. A Moldavian fort was constructed between the 14th and 16th centuries, and an Orthodox monastery was established around the 14th century.Today, visitors can explore the remains of these civilizations, including the earthen and wooden fortresses, the Orthodox cave monastery, and the surrounding natural landscape. The cave monastery, with its Old Church Slavonic inscriptions, offers a glimpse into the lives of monks who sought refuge here. The complex is an open-air museum, inviting exploration of its historical monuments and natural beauty.
