Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you're traveling by car, head southeast on the M2 highway from Chisinau towards Orheiul Vechi. Upon reaching Orheiul Vechi, follow signs for Old Orhei. You will pass through the village of Trebujeni. Continue until you reach the entrance to Old Orhei, where you can park your car. The fort is located within the archaeological complex, which will require a short walk uphill to reach the fort itself.
Public Transport
To reach Old Orhei Fort by public transport, take a minibus (marshrutka) from Chisinau to Orhei. Look for marshrutka # 114 or # 150 at the Central Bus Station. They run frequently, and the journey takes about 1 hour. Once you arrive in Orhei, you can take a local taxi or walk to the Old Orhei site. If you choose to walk, follow the signs to Old Orhei, which is about 5km away from where the minibus drops you off. Be prepared for a moderate hike uphill to the fort and carry some water.
Guided Tour
For a more convenient option, consider booking a guided tour from Chisinau that includes transportation to and from Old Orhei Fort. Many tours provide a knowledgeable guide who can share insights about the history and significance of the site. Prices vary, but expect to pay around 300-500 MDL per person, which typically includes transportation and sometimes lunch.
