The Saharna Landscape Reserve, encompassing 674 hectares, is located approximately 87 kilometers north of Chisinau, near the village of Saharna in the Rezina district. This protected area boasts a diverse landscape, characterized by rocky cliffs, caves, the Saharna River, and numerous waterfalls. The terrain, with a maximum altitude of 230 meters, is accessible for most visitors. Historically, the area has been inhabited since ancient times, with evidence of Geto-Dacian tribes from the 8th to 6th centuries BC. Today, a monument stands atop a hill, honoring these early inhabitants. The reserve is also home to the Saharna Monastery, a major pilgrimage site in Moldova. The monastery complex includes the Cave Monastery, dating back to the 7th century AD, and the Holy Trinity Monastery, with construction starting in 1776. Legend says that the Virgin Mary guided the monks to the site of the Holy Trinity Monastery. Visitors can explore the reserve's natural wonders, including the 22 waterfalls along the Saharna River, and a spring with supposedly curative waters. The diverse flora includes oak, linden, wild cherry, maple, and ash trees. The reserve also provides habitat for various bat species.
