From the Triumphal Arch, walk along Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Boulevard for about 15 minutes. The monument will be visible on your left as you approach the park. The Stephen the Great Monument stands as a prominent landmark in Chișinău, Moldova, a tribute to Prince Stephen the Great, who ruled Moldavia from 1457 to 1504. He is celebrated for his military victories and efforts to unify the country. The monument is located at the entrance to Ștefan cel Mare Central Park. The statue, designed by architect Alexandru Plămădeală in 1923, was erected to replace a monument to Alexander II of Russia. It was completed in 1927 and officially opened in 1928. The monument has had a tumultuous history, having been moved several times during periods of political upheaval. In 1940, before the Soviet occupation, it was moved to Vaslui, Romania. It was returned to Chișinău in 1942, only to be moved again in 1944. Finally, in 1989, it was restored to its original location.
