The Military History Museum, situated on Strada Tighina in Chișinău, serves as a repository of Moldova's military heritage. Since its establishment in 1999, the museum has been dedicated to collecting, preserving, and showcasing artifacts that illustrate the evolution of national military history. Housed in the former Soviet Army House of Officers, the museum's collection comprises over 20,000 items, including photographs, documents, and military artifacts. These items have been gathered from residents of Chișinău and the National Army. The museum's exhibitions are arranged chronologically, starting from prehistory and the Daco-Roman wars, moving through the medieval and modern eras. Visitors can explore displays on the Russo-Turkish wars, the First and Second World Wars, and the period in between. A significant portion of the museum is dedicated to the Second World War, presenting a wide array of weapons, uniforms of the Red Army and NKVD, and Soviet propaganda. In 2015, the museum inaugurated a section focusing on the events spanning from June 28, 1940, to March 5, 1953, highlighting the three waves of mass deportations. The museum also features exhibits on Soviet terror. Additionally, the museum has a hall dedicated to the armed conflict in Transnistria. Outside, a small open-air exhibition displays Soviet-made tanks, fighter planes, and other military equipment inherited by Moldova's armed forces.
