Discover more about Muzeul de istorie si etnografie Ungheni

The Muzeul de Istorie și Etnografie Ungheni, established in 1967, serves as a valuable center for research, preservation, and promotion of the culture of the communities in the Prut River valley. The museum's collection includes archeological finds, traditional folk costumes, carpets, and household items. The museum's history is intertwined with the region's cultural and political shifts. Initially housed in the former Alexandru Nevschi Church, the museum was established during a period when authorities were closing places of worship. In 1988, with a renewed appreciation for spiritual values, the church was returned to its parishioners, and the museum was relocated to the Palatul de Cultură (Cultural Palace), where it resides today. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing the region's agricultural heritage, traditional crafts, and significant historical events. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions of contemporary art by national and international artists. The museum publishes its own bulletin, "Pyretus," which is unique for a provincial museum.
