Overlooking the Fontvieille port, the Jardin Animalier de Monaco offers a distinctive zoological experience. Founded in 1954 by Prince Rainier III, the zoo is home to approximately 300 animals representing around 60 species. These include exotic birds, turtles, caimans, a hippopotamus, reptiles, primates, and lemurs. What sets this zoo apart is its commitment to animal welfare and conservation. None of the animals were purchased; instead, they come from donations, circuses, or rescues. When the zoo can no longer provide adequate living conditions, the animals are transferred to more suitable locations. The Jardin Animalier is located on the southern side of the Rock of Monaco and is set over four levels. The park has evolved over the years to ensure the animals are housed in the best possible conditions. Visitors can explore a variety of animals and a diverse range of flora throughout their visit. A playground is also available for children.
