Discover more about Jardin d'Acclimatation

The Jardin d'Acclimatation, established in 1954 by Prince Rainier III, is a unique and intimate zoological garden nestled in the center of Monaco. Spanning one hectare, this royal menagerie is home to a diverse collection of approximately 250 to 300 animals, representing around 70 different species. Originally founded after one of Prince Rainier III's trips to Africa, the Jardin d'Acclimatation has grown over the years to include a variety of animals, including primates, small mammals, reptiles, farm animals, and numerous birds. In 2009, the park welcomed five species from the closed Zoo de St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Visitors can admire flamingos, various duck species, and families of marmosets and tamarins thriving in the lush, tropical vegetation. The park focuses on providing a nurturing environment for animals that have been donated, come from circuses, or were abandoned or seized by customs. When the park's facilities can no longer ensure the best living conditions, animals are exchanged or transferred to more suitable locations. The Jardin d'Acclimatation offers a serene and peaceful retreat from the bustling city, making it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.
