Khar-Us Lake: A Serene Gem in Khovd

Getting There

• Car

  If you have access to a car in Khar Nuur, head west on the main road towards Khovd. Follow the road for approximately 30 km, keeping an eye out for the signs directing you to Khar-Us Lake. The drive should take around 40 minutes. As you approach the lake, you will see scenic views and may want to stop for photos. Once you reach the area near the lake, look for parking spaces designated for visitors.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Khar-Us Lake using public transportation, start at the main bus station in Khar Nuur. Look for buses heading towards Khovd; they usually depart multiple times a day. The fare should be around 5,000 MNT (Mongolian Tugrik). The bus ride will take approximately 1 hour. Once you arrive at the Khovd bus station, you can either take a taxi or look for local transport options like shared vans (also known as 'marshrutkas') that go directly to Khar-Us Lake. The taxi fare from Khovd to Khar-Us Lake is around 10,000 MNT, while shared vans may cost about 3,000 MNT and take a similar amount of time.

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Khar Nuur. This option is more expensive, costing approximately 20,000 MNT for a one-way trip, but it will take you directly to Khar-Us Lake without any stops. The journey will take around 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. Be sure to negotiate the fare before starting your trip.
