Getting There

• Car

  From Flathead Lake, head south on MT-35 S. Continue on MT-35 S for approximately 11 miles. You will pass through the town of Bigfork. After about 11 miles, take a left onto MT-83 S toward Swan Lake. Follow MT-83 S for about 12 miles until you reach Swan Lake. Once in Swan Lake, look for the signs directing you to Flathead National Forest. The forest entrance is located just off the highway. Be sure to check for any parking fees or permits required for access.

• Public Transportation

  If you are traveling by public transportation, you can take a shuttle or a bus from towns around Flathead Lake to Swan Lake. Greyhound and local shuttle services may have routes that connect Flathead Lake with Swan Lake. Upon arriving in Swan Lake, you may need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach the entrance of Flathead National Forest, which is about 5 miles from the town center. Ensure to check the local schedules in advance and plan for possible waiting times.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, biking from Flathead Lake to Flathead National Forest is an option. Start by heading south on MT-35 S, and then take a left onto MT-83 S. The ride is approximately 23 miles and will take you through beautiful scenic routes. Make sure your bike is in good condition, wear a helmet, and bring plenty of water. Keep an eye out for traffic as MT-83 can be busy at times.
