From downtown Missoula, head to the Mountain Line Transit Center located at 1221 Shakespeare St. Take the Route 1 bus heading towards the Rattlesnake area. The bus will take you along a scenic route through the city and into the Rattlesnake Valley. You'll want to get off at the stop closest to Rattlesnake Drive. It’s a short walk from the bus stop to Rattlesnake National Recreation Area & Wilderness.

Bicycle
If you prefer biking, start from downtown Missoula and head north on Higgins Avenue. Follow the bike path along the river which will eventually lead you to Rattlesnake Drive. Continue along Rattlesnake Drive until you reach the entrance to Rattlesnake National Recreation Area & Wilderness. The ride is approximately 5 miles and offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.

Walking
For the adventurous, you can walk from downtown Missoula. Start on Higgins Avenue and head north until you reach the intersection with Broadway Street. Turn left onto Broadway and then take a right onto Rattlesnake Drive. Continue walking along Rattlesnake Drive for about 3.5 miles until you reach the entrance to Rattlesnake National Recreation Area & Wilderness. This route is roughly 4 miles and can take about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace.
