Car
If you are driving, start from the nearest major town, Chefchaouen. From Chefchaouen, take the N2 road heading north towards Akchour. The drive will take about 30 minutes and offers stunning views of the Rif Mountains. Once you reach Akchour, follow the signs towards the Cascades d'Akchour. The road is well-marked, and you can park your car at the designated area near the entrance to the hiking trails.
Public Transportation
To reach Rif Mountains via public transportation, start from Tangier. Take a bus from Tangier to Chefchaouen. Buses run frequently throughout the day, and the journey takes approximately 2.5 hours. Once you arrive in Chefchaouen, you can either hire a local taxi or take another bus that goes to Akchour. The taxi will cost around 100 MAD (Moroccan Dirhams), and the bus fare is about 20 MAD. The bus from Chefchaouen to Akchour takes around 30 minutes.
Hiking
If you are already in the Rif and wish to explore the area further, you can hike from Akchour to the Cascades d'Akchour. The trail is well-marked and takes about 1-2 hours depending on your pace. Ensure to wear comfortable shoes and carry water, as the terrain can be rugged. Entry to the Cascades area is free, but be mindful of local guides who may offer tours for a fee.
Local Taxi
For convenience, consider hiring a local taxi to take you directly to your desired destination within the Rif Mountains. Taxis in the area are usually shared rides, so you can expect to pay around 50-70 MAD per person, depending on the distance. Always agree on the fare before starting your journey.
