Car
If you're traveling by car, the most popular route to Merzouga Desert is from the city of Erfoud. From Erfoud, take the N13 road south towards Merzouga, which is approximately a 50-minute drive (about 50 km). The journey is scenic with desert landscapes and palm groves. Once you arrive in Merzouga, you can park your car at designated areas near the dunes.
Public Transportation (Bus)
To reach Merzouga by public transportation, take a bus from major cities like Marrakech or Fes to Erfoud. The bus ride from Marrakech takes around 10 hours and from Fes about 7 hours. Once you arrive in Erfoud, you can catch a shared taxi or a local bus to Merzouga, which is about 50 km away. Shared taxis typically cost around 50 MAD per person and take about 40 minutes to reach Merzouga.
Shared Taxi
For a quicker option from Erfoud to Merzouga, you can take a shared taxi. These taxis leave when they are full (usually 5-6 passengers) and can cost approximately 50 MAD per person. The journey offers a chance to meet fellow travelers and locals.
