Getting There

• Bus

  To get to Chefchaouen from Tetouan, start by heading to the main bus station located in the center of Tetouan, known as Gare Routière. You can ask locals for directions to this station if you're unsure. Once at the bus station, look for a bus that is headed to Chefchaouen. Buses to Chefchaouen typically leave every hour or so. The journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you arrive in Chefchaouen, you will be dropped off near the town center. From there, you can follow signs or ask for directions to El Mellah, which is a short walk away.

• Shared Taxi

  Another option is to take a shared taxi, known as a 'grand taxi'. These can be found near the bus station or in designated taxi stands around Tetouan. Make sure to specify that you want to go to Chefchaouen. Shared taxis usually leave when they are full, so you might need to wait a bit. The ride is quicker than the bus, usually taking around 1 to 1.5 hours. Upon arrival in Chefchaouen, you can ask the driver to drop you off at a central location, from which El Mellah is easily accessible on foot.

• Walking

  If you are already in Chefchaouen and want to get to El Mellah, start from the main square, Plaza Uta el-Hammam, which is the heart of the town. From the plaza, head towards the blue streets of the medina. Follow the signs or ask locals for directions to El Mellah. It’s about a 10-15 minute walk from the plaza. El Mellah is known for its historical significance and is located in a quieter area, so enjoy the scenic views along the way.
