Getting There
-
Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Chimanimani. Head east on the main road (A4) towards the border with Zimbabwe. After approximately 15 kilometers, look for a turnoff to Chigamani. The road may become a bit rough, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Follow this road for about 5 kilometers until you reach the base of the Chigamani peak. There are no formal parking facilities, so you may need to park along the roadside.
-
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transportation, take a shared taxi (known locally as a 'kombie') from Chimanimani town to the nearest stop towards the Zimbabwe border. This will cost around 50 MT (Mozambican Meticais). Once you arrive at the border area, you may need to hire a local guide or a motorbike taxi to take you closer to Chigamani, as public transport does not extend directly to the mountain. Expect to pay an additional 100-150 MT for this last leg of the journey.
-
Walking
If you prefer an adventurous approach, after reaching the base of Chigamani by car or motorbike, you can hike up to the peak. The hike is quite steep and can take about 1-2 hours depending on your fitness level. Make sure to wear sturdy hiking boots and carry enough water. It is advisable to start early in the morning to avoid the midday heat.
