Hi, I'm Eve. Here are a few practical things to know before exploring Barra Lighthouse.
Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you're driving from Inhambane town, head south on EN1 towards Maxixe. Continue for about 20 kilometers until you reach the sign for Miramar. Take the exit towards Miramar and follow the road until you reach the coast. From there, follow the signs towards Barra Beach, which will lead you to Barra Lighthouse. Note that a high clearance vehicle is recommended due to the condition of the roads, especially closer to the lighthouse.
Public Transportation
To use public transportation, take a chapa (shared minibus) from Inhambane town to Maxixe. Once you arrive in Maxixe, you can find another chapa heading to Barra Beach. Inform the driver you want to get off at Barra Lighthouse or look for signs indicating the lighthouse. It's important to note that the last section of the route may require a short walk or hitchhiking, as some chapas may not go directly to the lighthouse. The total cost for the chapas should be around 20 to 50 meticais (MZN) depending on the distance.
Taxi
For a more direct option, you can hire a taxi from Inhambane town to Barra Lighthouse. This will provide you with a comfortable ride without the hassle of transfers. Ensure you agree on the fare beforehand, which should be around 500-800 meticais (MZN) depending on your negotiation skills and the driver's discretion. The taxi will take you directly to the lighthouse, making it the easiest option, especially for those carrying luggage or traveling in groups.
