Car
From Inhambane City, start your journey by heading north on the EN1 highway. Continue for about 70 kilometers until you reach the town of Maxixe. From Maxixe, take the ferry across the Inhambane Bay to the town of Inharrime. The ferry ride typically costs around 10-20 Meticais (MZN) per person. Once in Inharrime, continue on the EN1 highway for another 40 kilometers until you reach Vilankulos. In Vilankulos, follow the signs toward Chibuene, which is located about 25 kilometers south of the town center. The last stretch will take you off the main road onto a gravel path leading to Chibuene. Make sure to have a map or GPS handy as signage may be limited.
Public Transport (Chapa)
If you prefer public transport, start at the main bus terminal in Inhambane City. From there, board a chapa (shared minibus) heading to Vilankulos. The fare for this trip is typically around 50 MZN. The journey can take approximately 2-3 hours depending on road conditions. Once you arrive in Vilankulos, you can either take another chapa heading south toward Chibuene or hire a local taxi. Taxis in Vilankulos can be negotiated but expect to pay around 200-300 MZN for the trip to Chibuene. Be prepared for some waiting time as chapas leave when they are full.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct and comfortable option, you can hire a private taxi from anywhere in Inhambane Province. This option is more expensive but will take you directly to Chibuene without the need for multiple transfers. Expect to pay around 800-1000 MZN for a one-way trip from Inhambane City to Chibuene. Ensure you agree on the fare before starting your journey.
