Car
If you are traveling by car from the Zambezi River Basin to Maputo Special Reserve, start by heading south towards the EN1 highway. Once on EN1, continue driving south for approximately 600 kilometers. Look for the signs indicating 'Maputo' as you approach the city. After passing through Maputo, follow the signs for EN1 Km 84. The entrance to Maputo Special Reserve will be on your right. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel, as gas stations can be sparse in some areas.
Public Transportation - Bus
For those opting for public transportation, you can take a bus from the nearest major city in the Zambezi River Basin to Maputo. Board a bus heading to Maputo at the main bus terminal. The journey may take several hours, so be prepared for a long ride. Upon arriving in Maputo, you can catch a local taxi or another bus towards the EN1 highway. Inform the driver you wish to go to Maputo Special Reserve, and they will drop you off at the nearest point to the reserve's entrance. Expect to pay a small fare for the bus and an additional fee for the taxi.
Taxi or Ride-Sharing
After reaching Maputo, you can hire a taxi or use a ride-sharing app to reach Maputo Special Reserve. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand to avoid surprises. The distance from Maputo city center to the reserve is about 84 kilometers, and the ride should take roughly 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic. Ensure that your driver is familiar with the area, as some may not know the exact location of the reserve. The estimated fare could range from $30 to $50 USD.
