Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Taunggyi, the capital of Shan State. Head east on the Taunggyi - Tarchileik Road (also known as Highway 4). Continue on this road for approximately 30 kilometers, passing through small villages and scenic countryside. Look for signs pointing towards Htem Sann Cave; the entrance is typically marked. Once you arrive, there may be a small parking area available.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a shared taxi or local bus from Taunggyi to Tarchileik. These vehicles frequently depart from the central bus station in Taunggyi. The journey takes about 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic. Ask the driver to drop you off near Htem Sann Cave, as they are familiar with the area. You may need to walk a short distance from the drop-off point to reach the cave entrance. Be prepared for a small entrance fee, typically around 1000 MMK (Myanmar Kyat).
Motorbike Rental
If you're feeling adventurous, consider renting a motorbike in Taunggyi. Follow the same route as the car guidance, taking the Taunggyi - Tarchileik Road. This option allows for more flexibility and the chance to stop at other points of interest along the way. Ensure you wear a helmet and have a valid driver's license. Fuel stations are available along the road, but it’s a good idea to fill up before you leave Taunggyi. The rental cost is usually around 7000-10000 MMK per day.
